2012 Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday second free practice results

Sebastian Vettel was content following Friday practice in Bahrain, with Red Bull echoing the sentiments of most in the Formula 1 field: tyres will be the most crucial factor when it comes to Sunday’s race on the ultra-slippery track.

“We did a lot of running today, so that’s good,” the double Champion began. “Regarding setup, I think we got the answers in China that we were looking for and that’s helped us here. We now need to see where we are against what everyone else did today.

“I think others are the favourites this weekend, but we are focusing on ourselves and pushing hard. We made a step forward, but we see where we are tomorrow.”

Team-mate Mark Webber ended the second 90-minute session in second place, ahead of Vettel, and was therefore the closest challenger to Nico Rosberg.

“There are some quick cars out there – of course we don’t know which fuel loads people were running, but it looks pretty tight again,” the Australian added. “Tyres will play a big role on Sunday in the race.”
