Ross Brawn was somewhat coy when asked if Mercedes would be taking pole position in Bahrain this afternoon. After final practice, in which Nico Rosberg was quickest, the Team Principal explained that there are issues to rectify.
“Well, we’re in reasonable shape so I think we can have a go, but you’re never sure,” Brawn told Sky Sports. “Our drivers are not as comfortable with the car this morning as we were yesterday, so we need to understand why that is. We weren’t comfortable with the Hard tyre at all, so we need to look into that before qualifying.”
It remains to be seen whether Mercedes is sandbagging or Sebastian Vettel, whose Red Bull moved to within two tenths of Rosberg, is a genuine threat for pole.
