2012 Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

Jean Éric-Vergne has been handed a reprimand for missing the weighbridge during qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Frenchman therefore escapes a penalty.

During Q1, from which the Toro Rosso driver was knocked out on Saturday, the 2012 rookie unintentionally drove past officials who were waving him down in the pit lane.

A stewards’ report confirmed that a grid penalty had been reduced to a simple warning because mechanics realised the error and pushed the car to the FIA garage.

FIA Sporting Regulations – Article 26.2:

‘In the event of any breach of these provisions for the weighing of cars the stewards may drop the driver such number of grid positions as they consider appropriate or exclude him from the race.’

Benefitting from Pastor Maldonado's penalty, Vergne will start from 18th place.
