Caterham has confirmed that reserve driver Rodolfo González will spend a stint in the car at the upcoming Formula 1 test session in Italy. The GP2 driver will take a turn at Mugello, as race drivers Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov will also be present.
With the test running between 1 and 3 May, González will kick off proceedings on the Tuesday before Petrov and Kovalainen drive over the following two days.
“I am very excited about getting back into an F1 car at the Mugello test and want to thank Caterham F1 Team for this opportunity,” says the Venezuelan Caterham Racing driver who, like Williams’ Pastor Maldonado, is backed by PDVSA.
“It will be my third time in an F1 car with this team and it will be another good chance for me to further my experience at the top level of global motorsport. I took part in the young driver tests in 2010 and 2011, so to be able to help their development programme mid-season is another good step in my career.”
In GP2, González is team-mate to Giedo van der Garde, and the Dutchman was first to have an outing in the F1 car this season when he drove Free Practice 1 in China.
