The World Champion was not giving much away following Thursday’s third and final day of testing in Mugello this week, although Sebastian Vettel did declare himself content with Red Bull’s latest progress in the aerodynamic region.
Earlier this season, in China, Vettel fell out of qualifying in Q2, meaning he started 11th on a weekend when he had reverted to Red Bull’s older, a-spec exhaust configuration. For Bahrain, he was again using the team’s favoured b-spec version and duly celebrated his first victory of the season.
“It’s been a useful couple of days and I’ve enjoyed the track a lot,” he commented in Italy.
“As usual, we now have a lot of data to get through and that will take some time. We tried a few things and the results look encouraging; it’s always difficult to tell whether we improved and by how much, but we got some good laps and some good information.”
Vettel drove in Mugello on Wednesday afternoon and the whole of Thursday, with team-mate Mark Webber having been in the cockpit of the RB8 up until that point.
