Montezemolo: Championship is in our own hands
21 May 2012 – Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has served to give his team a morale boost ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix, addressing the Maranello-based workforce with a determined letter about the 2012 season so far.
After five races (one quarter of the campaign), Fernando Alonso finds himself tied for the lead of the Drivers' Championship with Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel, despite arriving at the season-opener in Australia with an underperforming car.
"The championship is very open and so far, there has not been one dominant force," said Montezemolo. "A series of circumstances and the work done here to improve the car, as well as Alonso’s great ability, has led to us leading the Championship after five rounds.
"We must capitalize on that, with each one of us giving our very best at home and at the race track, including Massa who must bring home the results we expect from him."
Montezemolo reiterated that Ferrari can only focus on itself for the remainder of the season, applying all its energy into further improving the F2012 chassis.
"I know from (team boss Stefano) Domenicali, with whom I am in constant contact, how hard all of you are working," he continued. "Of this I am sure, also because winning the Championship depends only and exclusively on ourselves: on our ability, our creativity, our determination and our desire to show that we are the best."
