The 2011 Monaco Grand Prix meeting ended in a blur for Sergio Pérez, who was knocked unconscious in his heavy accident at the Nouvelle Chicane. On Thursday, the Mexican was pleased with Sauber’s progress at the start of a weekend which the team intends to finish on the podium.
“The conditions were not ideal to do the work but we are looking good in the wet, so that is positive,” he explains. “In the dry there is some work to do, which we didn’t manage in the morning. However, I am confident as we were very quick this morning, the car is performing well and I think we can be competitive in qualifying on Saturday.”
Team-mate Kamui Kobayashi also shared his feelings:
“Everything went smoothly today. The car has definitely improved in the slow corners compared to last year and this is obviously crucial in Monaco. The balance of the car feels good and I’m pretty confident for the weekend. I just can’t predict how the two tyre compounds will develop in the race because the weather prevented us from doing proper long runs.”
In Monte Carlo, Pirelli’s red-marked Super Soft tyre compound is being used for the first time this season, joined by the yellow-wall Soft type.
