Fernando Alonso admits that he will switch his focus around various rivals as the 2012 Formula 1 season progresses. Having pointed out Lewis Hamilton as a title favourite earlier this weekend, he is now keeping his eyes on Monaco winner Mark Webber.
“For today, the target was to bear Lewis and Sebastian (Vettel) because they were close to us in the championship,” the Ferrari driver explains. “You have to concentrate on different drivers on a race-by-race basis. The next one is Mark, who is now second in the championship.”
Leaving Round 6 of 20 this season, Alonso holds a sole lead in the title race, three points ahead of the tied Red Bull pairing that is Vettel and Webber.
“This is an interesting season, with constant developments coming to each race and constant surprised being seen – you just never know who will take pole or win,” he adds.
As team-mate Felipe Massa has been unable to score as well as Alonso so far, Ferrari is further back in the Constructors’ Championship – now 60 points off the lead.
