The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) has sent out official congratulations to those of its members who won a selection of prestigious international motor races across the weekend. These include Mark Webber and Dario Franchitti, victors of the respective Monaco Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500 which were both held on Sunday.
‘Victory made both drivers multiple winners of these historic events, with Dario now the most successful British driver in the history of the Indy 500 after winning his third,’ reads a BRDC statement. ‘Mark’s second Monaco win followed a faultless drive and relentless pressure from the pursuing pack which produced the closest ever finish in the 70-year history of the annual race around the streets of Monte Carlo.’
The BRDC has also highlighted the achievements of Jolyon Palmer, Sam Bird and Sean Edwards, who won respective GP2, Formula Renault 3.5 and Porsche Supercup events on the streets of Monte Carlo.
“I’d like to offer my congratulations to Mark and Dario for two remarkable wins that puts them both in the history books of our sport,” says Derek Warwick, former racing driver and now BRDC President.
“I’d also like to say how impressed I am with BRDC SuperStars Jolyon and Sam; along with Sean they all deserve huge credit for winning extremely competitive races on the most demanding of circuits. We can all be very proud of what these five, fine ambassadors for our sport have achieved.”
