Hacker group Anonymous threatens F1 again

Hacker group Anonymous threatens F1 again

30 May 2012

Anonymous, the global group of hackers which took down the official Formula 1 website during the controversial Bahrain Grand Prix weekend, is threatening to disrupt proceedings again when the sport continues in Canada.

With f1.com not only providing articles and information but also online shopping services, its server holds numerous email address and credit card details which Anonymous is threatening to misuse. On this occasion, it claims to be opposing tyranny and humans rights violations in the province of Quebec in relation to Bill 78 – a law currently in use to prevent student unrest generated by proposed rises in tuition fees.

Anonymous is looking to ‘wreck anything F1 related’ it finds online over the race weekend, which spans Thursday to Sunday of next week.

“We highly suggest that you join the boycott of the F1 in Montreal and we certainly recommend that you do not purchase any tickets or merchandise online,” reads a statement from the group. “You have been warned.”

Furthermore, F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone is directly labelled ‘an evil and greedy man’.

“As we did in Bahrain – Anonymous intends to wreck Mr. Ecclestone’s little party,” the message adds.
