Vergne aims to find more speed
9 June 2012 – Although he was pleased with Toro Rosso’s Friday performance in Montreal, Jean-Éric Vergne now strives to improve his pace as the final practice session looms. In the second period, he and Daniel Ricciardo finished in 19th and 20th places.
“The day went smoothly because, even if there were a couple of red flags and a few drops of rain, we managed to get through all our programme, completing a good number of laps,” the Frenchman said on Friday evening.
“However, at the moment we are a bit too slow and must work hard overnight to find some speed from the data. On the long runs with more fuel, we were looking better than the short ones. As for the track, I enjoyed my first time driving on it and it’s certainly challenging and exciting.”
To date, Toro Rosso’s best Montreal result is eighth place, which it has achieved on three separate occasions: with Sebastian Vettel in 2008, Sébastien Buemi in 2010 and Jaime Alguersuari last year.
