Force India promises much in Montreal, with Paul di Resta and Nico Hülkenberg having ended Friday in fifth and eighth positions. On paper, such a result would yield 14 worthy championship points at the end of Sunday’s Canadian Grand Prix.
With a best lap time of 1:15.544, Scotland’s di Resta ended his second practice session three tenths of a second behind the pace-setting McLaren of Lewis Hamilton.
“The weather was a bit of a worry, with the constant threat of rain, so we had a very busy morning and probably did more laps in FP1 than we normally would,” explained the West Lothian man. “The initial baseline of the car was good and we worked on improving things further with each run. By the end of the day I was very happy with the feel of the car, in terms of balance.
“Of course, the ambient conditions are expected to change overnight and we need to see how that impacts us tomorrow, but based on today’s performance I think we can target Q3 if everything comes together.”
Heading into the seventh of 20 rounds this year, Force India sits eighth in the Constructors’ Championship but only 16 points behind sixth-placed Williams. Before the season began, the Silverstone-based team firmly targeted a top five result in the final 2012 standings.
