2012 Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

Toro Rosso’s Jean-Éric Vergne will start Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix in 20th place after he struggled during qualifying; the Toro Rosso driver finished behind the Caterhams of Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov.

“My little mistake in Free Practice 3 cost me a lot,” the Frenchman explained. “I didn’t get any running this morning and then this afternoon, I never really got a clean lap, encountering a lot of traffic which is therefore very disappointing.”

“Even if the traffic would not have made a huge difference to my position on the grid,” admitted Vergne. “Some cleaner laps would have allowed me to improve my performance and get a better feel for the car with this different setup.”

Toro Rosso pilots lie 16th and 17th in the Drivers' Championship, with Vergne two points ahead of his Australian team-mate, Daniel Ricciardo.
