Fernando Alonso is not ruling out victory in the Canadian Grand Prix, which would mark Ferrari’s second win of 2012 and his first in Montreal since 2006. The Spaniard has qualified third, knocked off the front row by Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton.
“It would be nice to win here but there are two guys quicker than us at the moment,” Alonso said on Saturday afternoon. “You never know. The races are difficult to predict this year and what happens on Saturday doesn’t usually happen again on Sunday.
“I’m pleased with the performance of our car and it’s been a very smooth weekend, with the new parts working as expected for both Felipe (Massa) and I.”
At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Ferrari is notably running a new exhaust configuration which was first trialled by its two drivers in the opening practice sessions of Friday.
