Michael Schumacher has all but admitted that he is no longer in the 2012 title fight following more bad luck in Canada on Sunday. Having scored only two points in seven races, the German was this time victim to a DRS flap which jammed open.
“It’s a mix of hydraulic and mechanical system and we need to understand what exactly the problem is,” Schumacher told Sky Sports. “We had it in Bahrain; we’re not yet clear whether it’s the same problem, but we’ll find out soon.”
Adding that the current run of results does not reflect his own pace, Schumacher is now looking to Nico Rosberg for Mercedes’ aspirations in the Drivers’ Championship.
“Maybe the positive is that Nico can sort of drive and get the points for the team, so at least we’re not completely lost and nowhere in the championship, but certainly for the boys on my car it’s disappointing,” Schumacher concluded.
