New Jersey organisers dispel unready rumours

New Jersey organisers dispel unready rumours

12 June 2012

Organisers for next year’s inaugural Grand Prix of America, to be hosted on the Port Imperial street circuit in New Jersey, have dispelled any gossip that the street race may not happen. Earlier in the year, Formula One Group CEO Bernie Ecclestone suggested that the event may be delayed until 2014.

As is often the case with new races, to ensure they are ready in time, Ecclestone appeared to have suggested doubt over the new Grand Prix but founding chairman Leo Hindery has no such worries.

“I don't know where these rumours are coming from, but this race is going forward," he told reporters. “If we had any doubt we wouldn't have brought Sebastian (Vettel) and all these people here today.”

On Monday, Champion Vettel drove an Infiniti road car on parts of the course to mark one year until the race takes place. Prior to that, this November, Texas will play host to the returning United States Grand Prix last held at Indianapolis in 2007.
