Lotus F1 demo to launch Grand Prix Ball

13 June 2012

A Lotus F1 demonstration run will kick off this year’s Grand Prix Ball, which traditionally takes place on the run-up to the British Grand Prix. Staged at the Hurlingham Club in London, it will also feature attendances from Damon Hill and Eddie Jordan.

The 2012 Grand Prix Ball will take place on Thursday 5 July, one day before track action begins at Silverstone. Set on the 54-acre estate on the banks of the river Thames, the red carpet will be rolled out for a number of guests, including the aforementioned 1996 World Champion.

The headline act will be Sophie Ellis-Bextor, with team owner turned BBC F1 pundit Eddie Jordan also taking to the stage with his band. All proceeds for the evening will go to children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent and the event will be broadcast on Sky Sports F1.

“We’re very pleased to be supporting CLIC Sargent again this year and looking forward to our most amazing line-up to date, on and off stage, with our live Lotus F1 demo to kick off proceedings,” says Jonny Dodge, CEO of event organisers GP Management.

The driver of the Lotus car is yet to be confirmed. During the ceremony, the engine will be programmed to play out national anthem God Save the Queen.
