Grosjean receives applause at Lotus factory
15 June 2012 – Following on from a second podium finish in seven races, Romain Grosjean travelled back to Lotus’ factory this week, where he was greeted by a standing ovation from the 520-strong workforce. The ever-smiling Frenchman admits that he was lost for words.
“It was crazy; for once I didn’t know what to say!” he laughs. “I don’t just come to Enstone to work with the engineers; I also come to see all the people who aren’t with us when we travel to races.
"When we see the car up there on the podium, it’s because of all the guys back at the factory and all the hard work they put in to constantly give us a little bit more on-track. I wanted the chance to thank them, so it was great to have that opportunity this week.”
Since struggling in his first seven races with Renault in 2009, Grosjean has continuously said that the criticism of the press made him ‘stronger’. He now sits eight points ahead of that year’s World Champion, Jenson Button, in the drivers’ standings.
