New grass to increase Valencia safety
In its constant fight to improve the general welfare of those competing on and working around the Valencia Street Circuit, Formula 1 governing body the FIA has made changes to artificial grass ahead of this weekend’s fifth event at the Spanish venue.
During sessions across last year’s race weekend, parts of the run-off areas came loose and acted as a potential hazard to drivers. This week, personnel have laid down a more durable product in a bid to ensure that there is no repeat of 2011.
Any incidents in first practice will be tracked through the interactive GPUpdate.net Live Report, which begins at 10am local time (BST +1) on Friday.
