Button to begin weekend with Hamilton’s setup

21 June 2012
2012 European Formula 1 Grand Prix

After his disastrous run of results in recent races, Jenson Button will start his European Grand Prix weekend with Lewis Hamilton’s car setup. Whereas the latter now leads the championship, the former sits only eighth and is 43 points behind his team-mate.

Having started the 2012 campaign in fine fashion with a win in Australia, Button’s first non-scoring event came in Malaysia; he bounced back with second position to first-time winner Nico Rosberg in China. Since then, he has scored just two points in four races.

“I guess the first thing you do is set up the car like the other car and that's what we'll do initially,” the 2009 Champion is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“There will be settings that Lewis prefers more than anybody else does, because that's how he sets it up; I won't be as quick as him on those settings, but we can work from there and find a setup that works for me. I've won a race this year, won many races before and that's where I feel I should be.

“You do have bad races, so it becomes about pulling together and working out the reasons - and we will. We will understand because this is a great team which has won many races and World Championships and we've won many great races together, so we will work out what the issue is. I will solve the issues, or we will solve the issues together.”

To date, the McLaren driver’s best result on the streets of Valencia is his third place of 2010, having finished behind Sebastian Vettel and Hamilton.
