Mark Webber will start the European Grand Prix in 19th position after failing to make the cut in Q1. The Australian had brake issues in Free Practice 3 and a further DRS problem in qualifying ruined his chances of progressing to the next knock-out.
“We had no DRS, so lost about 1.3 seconds,” Webber told reporters. “The lap time wasn’t too bad with the DRS out, but it doesn’t do anything to help the situation.”
This is the second time this season that reliability has cost Webber in qualifying and again it has happened in Spain.
“It’s a big hit for us, this one and Barcelona, through no fault of my own,” he continued. "It makes it very difficult.”
Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel had no such issues and will start tomorrow’s race from pole position, the 33rd of his career.
