Heikki Kovalainen has said he is happy with the progress of his Caterham team after making it into Qualifying 2, ahead of Mark Webber’s Red Bull and Jean-Éric Vergne’s Toro Rosso for Sunday's European Grand Prix in Valencia
“I think it just shows the effort everybody has put in since the beginning of the season.” Kovalainen told BBC Sport. “Hopefully this is where we are going to carry on tomorrow and the next Grand Prix.”
The Finn believes that this is the first time that Caterham have been able to challenge the more established teams on genuine perforamance.
“This is a not like a Monte Carlo, where you can sneak a good lap in,” he continued. “I think we’re working better than teams in front of us, so it is genuine.”
Kovalainen will start tomorrow’s race in a season best 16th while his team-mate Vitaly Petrov will line-up in 20th place.
