2012 European Formula 1 Grand Prix: Saturday qualifying results

Lewis Hamilton has been cleared of any wrongdoing in European Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday afternoon. The McLaren driver was part of a post-session investigation, with Nico Rosberg having been furious because of an incident.

Rosberg claimed that he and Williams’ Pastor Maldonado were delayed by the 2008 World Champion, who was travelling slowly on the run to the final corner.

Although Hamilton had lifted off to create a gap, the stewards ruled that he had not driven ‘unnecessarily slowly’, as Rosberg claimed. Furthermore, the Mercedes was on an out-lap at the time.

With no penalties applied, Hamilton and Rosberg retain their Valencia starting positions of second and sixth, behind Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen respectively.
