Pastor Maldonado has unsurprisingly blamed Lewis Hamilton for their collision in the closing stages of the European Grand Prix. Just over one lap from the end, as the McLaren driver’s tyres had gone off the cliff, the pair made contact at Turn 13.
The incident was reminiscent of Monaco 2011, when Hamilton had pitched Maldonado into the barriers; on this occasion, it was the Englishman’s car which went flying.
“He tried to put me out of the track and he didn’t leave any room to stay and do the corner side-by-side,” Maldonado explained to reporters.
“I jumped over the kerb and couldn’t avoid the accident. I don’t know why he drove like that. I had very good pace at that moment. It’s difficult to say (whose fault it is) but he tried a very aggressive movement on me.”
As a furious Hamilton retired, Maldonado sunk to tenth with a broken front wing.
