Lotus F1 has announced that it will be joining forces with The Dark Knight Rises at this weekend's British Grand Prix, the conclusion to Christopher Nolan's movie trilogy. As a result, the cars, driver helmets and overalls of Kimi Räikkönen and Romain Grosjean will feature the film's logo, along with exposure inside the outfit's garage.
"Our car, the E20, looks superb with the Batman branding and we are looking forward to seeing the reaction of our numerous fans when it takes to the Silverstone circuit this weekend," Lotus team boss Eric Boullier said of the partnership. "We are certainly hoping for an epic conclusion for The Dark Knight Rises E20 in the Grand Prix."
There is an ever-growing tradition of film creators and F1 teams striking business deals. For the Monaco Grand Prix weekend of 2005, Red Bull's RB1 was decorated with a special livery to mark the release of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, before supporting the film Superman Returns at the same venue one year later.
The most recent examples include Toyota's link up with Warner Bros. Pictures for the second instalment of the The Dark Knight trilogy in 2008, while double title-winning squad Brawn GP worked closely with the creators of Terminator Salvation for the 2009 Spanish Grand Prix.
Lotus sits third in the Constructors' championship ahead of its home race, witrh drivers Räikkönen and Grosjean sixth and seventh in the Drivers' standings.
