Timo Glock returns to Formula 1 this weekend, having missed the European Grand Prix two weeks ago because of an intestinal infection.
The Marussia driver took part in opening practice in Valencia but then decided to sit out for the rest of the weekend. As no replacement was found in time for qualifying, the Anglo-Russian team headed into Sunday’s race with just one car for Charles Pic.
At Silverstone on Friday morning, as rain pounded down on the Northamptonshire track, German Glock finished 18th quickest in the first practice session.
Spirits are down at Marussia this weekend following the serious testing accident suffered on Tuesday by reserve driver María de Villota. The 32-year-old Spaniard has lost her right eye and remains in a critical but stable condition in a Cambridge hospital.
