Mansell serving as steward for Britain

6 July 2012
2012 British Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday

Nigel Mansell is playing the role of FIA driver representative steward for this weekend’s British Grand Prix. The Englishman, World Champion of 1992, won the Silverstone event for Williams in 1987, 1991 and in his title season.

As rain washed out first practice, the stewards did not have a particularly busy morning in England but are investigating one incident, as Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi dived into the pit lane at late notice - crossing the white line in the process.

Over the weekend, Mansell will contribute to handing out penalties in practice, qualifying and the race, such as the ten-place grid drop taken by Jean-Éric Vergne after the Toro Rosso driver swerved into Heikki Kovalainen’s Caterham at the last race in Valencia.
