Hamilton carries Olympic torch in Luton

Fresh from his eighth place finish in the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton started day 52 of the Olympic torch relay on Monday morning.The McLaren driver set off from St George's Square in Luton, before the torch was passed on to a further 132 people.

"I've had such a great reception, they made it even more enjoyable," Hamilton told the BBC after his run. "I am so incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to do this, not many people get to do this.

"I have to thank God every day for the wonderful opportunities and blessings that I am given. I've achieved a certain amount in my career and this is another thing that I can put on the list of wonderful experiences."

After Sunday's result, Hamilton lies fourth in the overall Drivers' standings, 37 points behind ex-McLaren team-mate and now Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso.
