Kimi Räikkönen believes that Lotus is close to extracting the maximum from its E20 chassis, with the Finn hopeful over the team's chances to fight for victories throughout the season. The 32-year-old, who finished fifth in Sunday's British Grand Prix, has set his sights on 'piecing together a whole weekend' in order to realise his full potential.
"I was really pleased with the car," said an upbeat Räikkönen, who also set the fastest lap of the race at Silverstone. "It’s been feeling good all weekend and we’re definitely getting closer to finding the full speed from it. We were really quick on the Hard tyres, especially at the end. It’s just a shame we didn’t have the space on track to use it for the whole race.
"The car has the potential to get good results; we just need to piece together a whole weekend at our best. Qualifying can still improve, but our main strength against the other teams is in the race and that’s where it counts."
Räikkönen's fifth place finish saw him jump ahead of Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg in the championship standings, where he now holds fifth position with 83 points.
