Vettel aiming to secure maiden home victory

Sebastian Vettel has set his sights on securing a first home victory at Hockenheim, having never taken to the top step of the podium in Germany. The double World Champion's best home finish came back in 2009, when he followed Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber home in second place at the Nürburgring.

"I’m looking forward to the German GP, hopefully there will be at least as many people supporting the German drivers as there were in Silverstone last weekend," Vettel explained ahead of the race. "Hockenheim is only half an hour away from my home town, so I have a lot of friends and family there and it’s always a special crowd to race in front of.

"I’ve driven on that circuit in different series and it’s always been great. The campsites near the circuit are fun and it’s special to meet the fans. I haven’t won the German GP before and of course, I would like to!"

Vettel heads to his home race holding third place in the Drivers' standings with a total of 100 points, 16 behind team-mate Webber and 29 behind leader Fernando Alonso.
