Räikkönen hoping for warm German weather

16 July 2012

With his podium performances of the Bahrain, Spanish and European Grands Prix still fresh in the mind, Kimi Räikkönen is hopeful of similar conditions as Formula 1 regroups in Germany. The Finn is yet to win at Hockenheim, but was dominating for McLaren before suffering a hydraulics failure which seriously hindered his title challenge in 2005.

“I've always enjoyed driving in Germany, but the problem is that luck has never been on my side there and something has always happened to stop me winning,” the 2007 World Champion is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “I've had four pole positions, which shows my speed on German soil, but six retirements haven't been what I wanted.”

Thinking about the upcoming weekend, he continues:

“Some hot weather would be good. Usually at Hockenheim it has been very hot and everybody has had problems with the tyres going off. Obviously, for us, the hot weather suits the car fine. Our car prefers the hot temperatures and on the long runs it's not that hard on tyres. Let's have some real summer weather at Hockenheim.”

After Germany, F1 will be at the halfway point of the 2012 season. At present, Lotus sits third in the Constructors’ Championship and just two points ahead of McLaren.
