Daly aims to join Abu Dhabi test

19 July 2012

Conor Daly is optimistic about taking part in this year’s second Young Driver F1 test, staged in Abu Dhabi in November. The American, son of ex Grand Prix driver Derek, has already taken part in two straight-line aerodynamic runs for Force India.

Aiming to become the first American to compete in F1 since Scott Speed in 2007, Daly continues to race in GP3 this season and currently sits sixth in the standings for Lotus.

“It was great to help the team, really,” Daly told GPUpdate.net of his latest outing for Force India. “They've given me an opportunity to help them and I just hope I can help as much as I can. They are a great group of people to work with and I would love to work with them in the future, obviously.”

When asked if he will be taking part in the rookie test, the 20-year-old replied:

“I would love to, if it all works out. I don't know, but that's definitely what I'm working for. If I can keep some good results going in GP3, then that would be fantastic. I'd love that.”

Heading to Germany this weekend, GP3 is led by New Zealander Mitch Evans who holds an 11-point advantage over Aaro Vainio of Finland.
