Rosberg takes five-place penalty for gearbox

20 July 2012
2012 German Formula 1 Grand Prix: Friday

Nico Rosberg has received a grid penalty of five positions ahead of his home Grand Prix at Hockenheim. This follows a gearbox change after second practice on Friday.

The punishment means two potential pole-sitters are already out of contention before qualifying on Saturday, as Lotus driver Romain Grosjean has suffered the same fate.

Rosberg finished Friday's second practice session in second place, slower only than Pastor Maldonado as World Champion Sebastian Vettel completed the top trio.
