McLaren Group Chairman Ron Dennis is confident that Lewis Hamilton will stay put for the 2013 campaign, with the former Team Principal expecting a contract renewal later this year. Despite going through what he described as a 'poor patch' in form, Dennis believes the team is now back on-track and can consistently fight for victories.
"We've had a poor patch, I think we're quite strong again now," Dennis told BBC Radio 5 live. "Hopefully (we can get) a good result in Hungary going into the summer break. There are over nine races to go so we're well in with a chance of the championship.
"There's no reason why Lewis won't be driving our cars in the future. I think people get a little wrong impression. When I last looked at the contract I was paying him, so it's a question of whether we employ him, not the other way around."
Hamilton currently sits 62 points behind championship leader Fernando Alonso in the Drivers' standings, equating to more than two race victories. However, Dennis is hopeful of a resurgence after a series of successful upgrades at Hockenheim.
"I think the fact that we nearly won the last Grand Prix (in Germany) says what our performance is really like," he continued. "If things pan out the way I expect them to, I'm pretty sure he'll (Hamilton) be sat in a McLaren next year."
