Hamilton unfazed by Dennis comments

27 July 2012

Lewis Hamilton insists that he is ‘relaxed’ over the ongoing news reports about his future in Formula 1 and recent comments from McLaren head Ron Dennis. The latter, who is no longer F1 Team Principal but is still CEO of the McLaren Group, claimed that it is the company which will make a decision on Hamilton’s future and not the reverse.

“It’s a question of whether we employ him, not the other way around,” Dennis told BBC Radio 5 live. “If things pan out the way I expect them to, I am pretty sure he will be sat in a McLaren next year.”

Hamilton signed a five-year deal with McLaren after his highly successful first F1 season in 2007. At one point he was linked with a possible move to Red Bull, but Mark Webber has already signed another one-year deal which covers the 2013 campaign.

“I don’t know what Ron has been saying or what questions people have asked him,” Hamilton told reporters in Hungary ahead of this weekend’s race. “This isn’t really for me to comment on and what he said has nothing to do with me particularly. Martin (Whitmarsh, Team Principal since 2009) is my boss and we will talk at some stage. I’m relaxed.”

Hamilton has already pinpointed the upcoming F1 summer break, which features four non-race weekends between Hungary and Belgium, as an ideal time to finalise his latest contract talks. He continues to be managed by Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment group.
