Controversies incredibly boring, says Webber

6 August 2012

Mark Webber is disillusioned by the recent technical controversies surrounding Red Bull and believes the majority of Formula 1 fans are as well. So far the season, the World Champions have come under fire from a number of different parties.

Most of the queries from rival teams have related to the floor and exhaust areas of Adrian Newey’s RB8. At the German Grand Prix, FIA stewards came close to preventing both Webber and Sebastian Vettel from starting the race as the squad was adjudged to be talking advantage of rules relating to torque. Its engine mapping setting were duly changed ahead of the next race in Hungary.

“I think it's incredibly boring for most people,” Webber told Reuters. “All we can do is keep passing every single test and we have....it's not a one-make series - you can design a car to the regulations and that's what we do. I know other teams have been asked to address things with their cars (as well).”

The Australian, currently second in the Drivers’ Championship and 40 points behind Fernando Alonso, is spending his current time off at the London Olympic Games.

“I'm loving it, brilliant” he added. “There's no racing stuff going on.”

Monday marks the first day of the F1 summer break on which all team factories are closed, with McLaren having been the only outfit to shut its doors from last week.
