Maldonado damages car in Venezuelan demo

13 August 2012

There was an embarrassing moment for Pastor Maldonado and Williams on Sunday when the Venezuelan returned home for a F1 demonstration run. The Barcelona winner was set to show the capabilities of the car in front of 20,000 fans, but spun into a kerb.

A 12-lap run was expected on the Fuerte Tiunas military parade ground, but Maldonado accidently spun the car into a roadside kerb and damaged its rear suspension. A massive thunderstorm prevented it from being repaired.

Not only were spectators out in their drones in the capital city of Caracas, but team Principal Sir Frank Williams and successor-to-be Toto Wolff were also in attendance plus several politicians and special military guests.

Caterham reserve driver Rodolfo González was able to give the public something to shout about as he managed an eight-lap GP2 demo before the storm.
