Lauda: Vettel could learn something from Alonso

16 August 2012

Niki Lauda believes Sebastian Vettel could learn a lot from Fernando Alonso when it comes to dealing with difficult situations. Champion of 2010 and 2011, the German has won just one race from the first 11 of 2012 and sits 42 points behind the Spaniard.

“Last year, Sebastian had a huge advantage with his car, which was by far the strongest in the field,” Lauda, title winner of 1975, 1977 and 1984 told Austrian newspaper Österreich. “This time the stress levels are much higher. He could therefore learn something from Alonso, who excels in dealing with difficult situations properly.”

The former rival of James Hunt and Alain Prost expects a dramatic final nine events.

“The difference between the top teams is very small, as we saw at the last race in Hungary,” the 63-year-old begins to sum up. “I expect this to continue and hope that Red Bull and McLaren still have further potential to exploit.”

The Constructors’ Championship is clearer cut at present, with Red Bull leading McLaren by 53 points as Formula 1 heads to Belgium at the end of the month.
