New Jersey GP President resigns from post

21 August 2012

Tom Cotter has resigned from his post as President of the Grand Prix of America with immediate effect, handing his duties to former colleagues Dennis Robinson and Richard Goldschmidt. The news comes just 8 months into his role at the New Jersey street venue, having started work on the 2013 race at the beginning of the year.

"I have full faith in the Grand Prix of America team and look forward to sitting in the grandstands at a world-class race in 2013," he explained in the statement.

Leo Hindery Jr., the New York sports media figure behind the project, added: "We’re all thankful for Tom’s leadership in bringing Formula 1 to Port Imperial.

"During his stewardship we’ve made great progress and are less than a year away from the sport’s top racers speeding around a street course with New York City in the background. We wish our friend Tom the best as he returns home to North Carolina."

Formula 1 is scheduled to visit the New Jersey street venue next season, with the famous New York skyline the main focus point of the circuit.
