Nico Rosberg will start 23rd on the grid in Belgium, having crossed the start line too late at the end of Q1. Already hit with a five-place penalty for a gearbox change, the German’s miserable weekend continued as he started his last lap nine seconds too late.
“That was my mistake, I judged it wrong,” the Mercedes driver admitted to BBC Radio 5 live. “Either way, the whole weekend has been difficult - with the gearbox problem and having to find my way in qualifying, which was never going to be easy at Spa.
“I wasn’t feeling ideal about it, so either way it was going to be difficult and that’s not a great starting position for tomorrow.”
Team-mate Michael Schumacher, on his 300th Grand Prix weekend, was knocked out in Q2 and will line up 13th at legendary Spa-Francorchamps.
