Sauber: Now we can show true potential
1 September 2012 – Sauber are confident that a very strong result can be extracted from the Belgian Grand Prix, now that their cars have qualified better than any other team. With Kamui Kobayashi second and Sergio Pérez fifth, CEO Monisha Kaltenborn was visibly emotional on the pit wall.
“It’s a fantastic result for the team and our best so far,” Kaltenborn beamed. “I think it is very important after the break that we have come back so strong. We have seen the potential and always said, if we could just be further up the grid, we could show so much more.
“We are in that position and it is now up to us to continue that trend tomorrow. Hats off to the team at home (Hinwil, Switzerland) that has done such a good job getting a good car here and also to the team at Spa which has done a great job.”
To date, Sauber’s best result at Spa-Francorchamps is third place with Jean Alesi, when the French-Sicilian finished on the podium behind a Jordan one-two in 1998.
