Pastor Maldonado’s jump start at Spa was nothing more than a simple driver error, Williams has confirmed. As the red lights went out, the Venezuelan grabbed all attention by shooting from sixth to a brief second place before the first-corner carnage.
“Pastor jumped the start,” begins Mark Gillan, Chief Operations Engineer for Williams. “He jumped the start as his fingers slipped from the clutch paddle by mistake…the weekend promised a lot, so to come away with no points is disappointing.
"I am proud of the effort that the whole team has put in over this difficult weekend and, whilst we ultimately didn't score points, we have learnt a lot and should therefore be stronger in Monza as a result of this.”
Williams now aims for a points finish with both cars in Italy this weekend.
