Jérôme d’Ambrosio returns to a Formula 1 race seat in Italy this weekend, substituting for the banned Romain Grosjean at Lotus. Born a Belgian but half Italian, the former Virgin Marussia driver is keen to maximise his opportunity.

Left on the sidelines in favour of Charles Pic at Marussia, d’Ambrosio has spent 2012 commentating for Sky Sports and on the official world feed for GP2. Asked what he hopes to achieve alongside Kimi Räikkönen at high-speed Monza, the 26-year-old reserve driver replied:

“That’s a difficult question because I don’t have much information and I don’t feel that I’ve really had much time in the car – just one test at Mugello…and on a wet track. Having said that, I have been really involved with the team so I will just try to capitalise on that.”

He added that the week has been ‘hectic’, having been notified of the team selection on Monday. D’Ambrosio, hoping for an F1 race seat in 2013, remains on the driver market and so this could prove to be the most important weekend of his career so far.
