No panic over 2013 decision, says Pérez
8 September 2012 – Sergio Pérez has fended off constant links with a Ferrari race drive, instead insisting that there is ‘no panic’ to sign any contracts. The Mexican is hot favourite to replace Felipe Massa, should the Brazilian not be retained by the Maranello squad.
Pérez is already on Ferrari’s books as a member of their young driver academy and has been loaned to Sauber for the 2012 campaign. His imminent future remains to be seen.
“Of course this question had to pop up again!” he laughed when interviewed by the official F1 website. “To be honest, I am fine with it. I am concentrating completely on the racing and giving 100 percent and more for my team - and the rest we will see.
“No panic - there will be a decision…and of course it is coming nearer and nearer, but we are not there yet.”
Pérez has impressed many this season, not least as he has picked up two podium finishes and demonstrated a clear ability in looking after tyres. He sits ninth in the title race.
