Maldonado: I didn’t put everything together
8 September 2012 – A frank Pastor Maldonado has admitted that he failed to string together a clean qualifying lap, having been knocked out of Q2 at Monza. 12th on the timesheets now translates to 22nd on the grid, as the Venezuelan is carrying a double penalty from Spa.
In Belgium last weekend, Maldonado picked up two separate five-place drops; the first was for jumping the start and the second for hitting Timo Glock at the restart. Like Nico Hülkenberg, the Williams will be fighting through from the back of the Monza grid.
“We knew we had the ten place drop and today wasn’t the best day for our car,” Maldonado explained. “We struggled a little bit on the last lap, I didn’t put everything together.
“Tomorrow is going to be a hard race but we’ll see what we can do. We’re not the best in the second sector or the straights; so the combination we have might not be the best for qualifying but it could be for the race, so we’ll see tomorrow.”
Maldonado is still yet to score since winning the Spanish Grand Prix. Team-mate Bruno Senna will start Sunday’s race in 13th position.
