Daniel Ricciardo was devastated to have missed out on a second consecutive points finish when his Toro Rosso lost power in the final seconds at Monza. The Australian’s car failed to pick up the last drops of fuel, as Bruno Senna stole tenth place for Williams.
“I was running tenth until the last corner on the very last lap, then I accelerated out of the Parabolica and nothing happened,” explained the Australian. “I don’t know what happened but to lose out on a point like that is bitterly disappointing.”
For Senna, the issue was a welcome sight.
“It was very tough to try to make the one-stop strategy work, but we did it and were also lucky with a few cars that were forced to retire,” the Brazilian admitted. “It was a great effort from the team to make it into the points today. Now we look forward to the next few races where we run higher downforce on the car, which should suit us better. We will be aiming to build on today and bring home even more points.”
Sunday was disappointing all-round for Toro Rosso’s home race, as Jean-Éric Vergne spun and was launched over a kerb because of a suspected suspension breakage.
