Kamui Kobayashi is confident that Sauber can secure a strong result at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in Singapore next weekend, despite the fact that his team has failed to finish higher than tenth at the venue as a privateer entry.
The Japanese driver crossed the line in ninth place at Monza last time out, with team-mate Sergio Pérez an impressive second. Despite the huge contrast between both circuits, Kobayashi feels this year's C31 is more of an all-round performer.
"After our great result in Monza, everybody in the team is very motivated," Kobayashi explained ahead of the floodlit event. "Singapore is a truly special event. As a night race it has established itself as a real highlight. Personally I like the place.
"Also it’s not too far from my home country, and there are always a lot of Japanese fans. The track is quite demanding with a lot of corners, and mostly slow ones. In the past this kind of track didn’t really suit our car, but with this year’s Sauber C31 things have changed. I don’t see any reason why we shouldn’t be competitive there."
Kobayashi currently sits 12th in the overall Drivers' standings, eight points behind Michael Schumacher and 30 in arrears of fellow Sauber driver Pérez.
