2012 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix: Thursday

Caterham has taken a new front wing to Marina Bay ahead of this weekend’s fifth F1 night race. The component, to be raced by both Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov, is aimed at generating extra levels of downforce for the tight and twisty street circuit.

“We will have a new front wing,” Finn Kovalainen confirmed to Sky Sports. “It is slightly different and should give us a straightforward performance increase, some more downforce and hopefully makes our car a bit quicker. Other than that, there is nothing major - just a few small updates. The front wing is the main thing we will have this weekend.

“Singapore is a totally different circuit to Monza and Spa - it requires a different setup and the conditions are different. I know there has been a lot of data-analysing going on since those events, trying to understand why our Spa performance wasn’t very good, and then why Monza was much more like normal, and I think we understand the main issues.”

As Formula 1 heads back to Marina Bay, Kovalainen’s name continues to be linked with a possible 2013 Ferrari seat after his management visited the Italian team in Maranello.
