Britain’s Max Chilton could take part in a Friday free practice session with Marussia before the end of the 2012 Formula 1 season. On Thursday, it was announced that the Surrey-born driver is to represent the team as reserve between the Japanese and Brazilian races.

Currently competing in GP2, Chilton has achieved two pole positions this season and clinched victory at the Hungaroring. He also joined Marussia for the Young Driver Test at Silverstone.

“Max’s primary role is as a reserve driver and this is the focus,” Team Principal John Booth told GPUpdate.net in Singapore. “A Friday practice drive is of course a possibility but nothing is planned and nothing has been discussed.”

Max is the younger brother of Tom Chilton, who competed in the British Touring Car Championship between 2002 and 2011 before switching to the world series.
