Numerous teams ran updated car parts in Singapore on Friday, with one being Ferrari. The Scuderia tested out a new rear wing but, like Mercedes with their modified exhausts, the squad is yet to judge its full potential. It remains possible that the part will not be raced.
“We tried various new components on the car,” began championship leader Fernando Alonso. “Some seem to be positive, others less so, but maybe in the case of the latter; we need to spend a bit more time for them to be developed as well as possible.
“Overall, I would say today was positive, even if the first impression is that we are not as competitive as we were in Monza. We still lack a bit of performance on tracks like this one, where you need maximum aerodynamic downforce.”
To compound Ferrari’s difficulties, Red Bull is back up to speed on the twisty confines of Singapore, having struggled on the long straights of Belgium and Italy.
